Sarah Murphy
Sarah Murphy is returning to Mareck Dance for her fourth season. She grew up in Millville, CA and has previously danced as a company dancer with BalletNext and South Valley Ballet, a second company dancer with NWA Ballet Theatre, and an ensemble dancer in Wilder Production’s NU·TOPIA. Some of her favorite pieces from her time at Mareck Dance include Karen Mareck Grundy’s Carmina Burana, Unbreakable Code, and Choice, Autumn Eckman’s People, Places, Things, Joshua L. Peugh’s And The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon, Stephanie Martinez’s Beweist, Shannon Lee West’s Falling…Apart and Proximity, Sean Aaron Carmon’s Linger Longer, and Colby Damon’s Rosie In My Dreams.
Sarah earned her BFA in Ballet from the University of Utah, where she completed academic courses in pedagogy, kinesiology, music theory, choreography, dance history, dance criticism, and nutrition, in addition to varied studio and performance courses. In college, she began studying both somatic practices and kinesiological concepts and learning to incorporate them into her approach to dance and wellness—this link is something that she continues to be passionate about exploring, and infuses into both her dancing and her teaching. She is now the Associate School Director and Youth Ensemble Director with Mareck Center for Dance, and she loves being able to spread this exploration of dance and wellness to students of all ages.
