Off the stage and beyond the School, Mareck Center for Dance serves the community through educational and outreach programs that promote creativity and fitness, and build appreciation for the arts.

DanceReach with the Boys and Girls Club

At-risk youth study for free with an Mareck Center for Dance dancer once a week during the school year through DanceReach, our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia.

These youth have an opportunity to learn different types of dance, build their skills and fitness, and expand their horizons. The culmination of their hard work is the chance to perform on stage for a live audience at Mareck Center for Dance events.

Scholarships for Youth In Need

The Mareck Center for Dance offers scholarships to aspiring kids who want to study dance but whose families can not afford the tuition. Each year, scholarship funds are awarded to local youth in need, ages 8 to 18, to provide them with the opportunity to study at our school.

Dance Classes for People with Different Abilities

Children and adults with different abilities learn and explore the world of dance through Mareck Center for Dance’s Danceability initiative. This first-of-its kind program in the area was designed by physical therapists in collaboration with Mareck Center for Dance dancers – who lead the classes together – to meet the students’ unique needs and abilities.

Danceability provides a safe and supportive learning environment where people with different abilities can grow and develop their skills. Learn more.

Performance Tickets for Non-Profit Agencies

Local non-profit agencies receive tickets from Mareck Center for Dance to share free-of-charge with underserved members of our community. We donate an average of $2,000 in tickets per performance to groups that serve the disabled, at-risk youth, & low-income families.

Educational Demonstrations at Schools & Senior Living Homes

Through educational demonstrations, we focus on reaching two important groups:

Children. Mareck Center for Dance is school touring qualified by the Missouri Arts Council & we perform frequently at local schools. Beyond engaging students in discussions about dance with members of the Company, our study guide links ballet & the arts to topics such as math, history, & science.

The Elderly. At senior living homes throughout the area, Mareck Center for Dance dancers perform & provide an interactive experience by teaching audience members dance positions & steps. Following the demonstration, they spend time visiting with the seniors, answering questions & offering insight into the life of a professional dancer.

Participation in Community Events

Open Rehearsals at the Studio

Several times a year, Mareck Center for Dance invites the public into its black box performing studio to view open rehearsals. This intimate experience gives community members the opportunity to see the dancers up close in action. It also cultivates a sense of personal connection between community members and the dancers as they have a chance to meet and spend time visiting.
